Patna: IIT Patna (IIT-P) is emerging as a formidable placement destination with its BTech average package rising by nearly Rs 6 lakh in five years and the number of job offers more than doubling, reflecting growing industry confidence in the institute.The BTech average package climbed from Rs 17 lakh in 2021-22 to Rs 23 lakh in 2025-26, while total job offers rose from 241 to 687 during the period. The number of companies visiting the campus also increased dramatically, from 125 to 230.The institute’s placement performance has been particularly striking in recent years. The median package for B Tech/B Sc graduates jumped 38% in 2025-26, from Rs 13 lakh to Rs 18 lakh per annum. The average package rose 17%, from Rs 19 lakh to Rs 23 lakh.Pre-placement offers (PPOs), another indicator of industry demand, have more than tripled, rising from 40 in 2020-21 to 122 in 2025-26, an increase of nearly 30% in just one year.IIT-P registrar A K Thakur attributed the improvement to the institute’s strengthening academic and infrastructure ecosystem and growing interest among multinational and Navratna companies in its students.The scale of the transformation is evident from the longer-term figures: companies visiting IIT Patna increased from just 25 in 2012 to 230 in 2026, while job offers jumped from 86 to 687.The institute has also achieved 100% placement in three MTech specialisations and all MSc programmes, underlining the breadth of its placement gains, said Thakur.
