Ranchi: Three major roads in the state capital are set to undergo surface restoration work on a priority basis after relentless monsoon downpour left the city’s traffic corridors riddled with craters and eroded asphalt.The state road construction department, taking swift action on the deteriorating infrastructure, has initiated repair work on a war footing along three crucial arteries in the city covering over 18 km.The first identified stretch is the 7.9-km corridor from LPN Sahdeo Chowk to Booty More, which has suffered extensive surface erosion. The second is a vital 2.3-km segment connecting Nepal House to Hinoo Chowk via Mecon Chowk, while the third stretch covers 7.8 km from Ratu Road Junction to HEC Gate.Tenders for the comprehensive restoration project have already been floated, with authorities setting a strict three-month timeline for completion. The work is backed by a sanctioned non-plan budget exceeding Rs 259 crore for the 2026-27 fiscal year, allocated for wide-ranging activities across the state, including asphalt resurfacing, fresh road markings, protective painting and clear signage installation.“We are treating the restoration of these priority corridors with utmost urgency,” said road construction department secretary Sunil Kumar.He added, “While active rainfall necessitates immediate temporary patching to ensure safe commuter movement, our teams will carry out complete, permanent surface restoration the moment dry weather permits.”Department officials said that temporary road repairs are currently ongoing across affected areas in the state to maintain mobility, with full-scale engineering fixes ready to be executed as monsoon spells ease.
