Times News NetworkBokaro: A police constable, 40, posted at the Jamtara cyber police station, was forwarded to judicial custody on Saturday following his arrest by Giridih district police for allegedly cheating people of more than Rs 39 lakh by promising vehicles seized by police at throwaway prices through govt auctions.The accused, identified as Gautam Kumar, was arrested by Bengabad police in Giridih from his residence at Gadiya village under Madhupur police station in Deoghar district.Bengabad police station officer in-charge Aman Kumar Singh said, “The accused was involved in duping people in the name of auctioning seized vehicles. A case was registered at Bengabad police station in March.”According to police, Kumar lured victims by claiming that police stations across the district were auctioning seized vehicles at highly discounted rates.

He reportedly collected hefty advance payments from buyers, assuring them of allotment of vehicles. However, neither were the promised vehicles delivered nor was the money returned.The fraud surfaced after Maharaj Yadav, a resident of Chapuadih in Bengabad, lodged a complaint in March this year, accusing the constable of cheating him and several others. Based on the complaint, police launched an investigation leading to his arrest.
