Madhepura: A man allegedly shot dead his younger brother while he was asleep and later died by suicide in the Alamnagar police station area of Madhepura district on Wednesday morning.The deceased were identified as Pankaj Kumar (35) and Chhotu Kumar (28), sons of local grocery trader Nawal Kishor Bhagat.According to police, both brothers were sleeping on the same bed when Pankaj woke up and allegedly shot Chhotu dead. He then allegedly shot himself. Hearing the gunshots, family members and neighbours rushed to the room and found both brothers lying in a pool of blood on the bed. They tried to save them but found them dead.On receiving information, Alamnagar police reached the spot and recovered a country-made firearm from the spot. A forensic team was called to investigate the incident.Chhotu’s marriage was scheduled for July 8, and the incident occurred amid wedding preparations in the family.Villagers said Pankaj had been behaving abnormally for the past few days. However, no reason behind the incident has emerged so far.Uda-Kishunganj SDPO Avinash Kumar also reached the spot and spoke to the victims’ father. “Police are investigating the incident to ascertain the motive behind the incident,” he said.
