Mumbai police arrest 6 in cyber scam racket; seize ATM cards, cheque books and SIMs

MUMBAI: The city crime branch arrested six men and busted a gang of people who were part of a cyber criminals’ gang that targeted people and cheated them. These accused provided bank accounts for cyber fraud and online gaming apps.Police said that they received information that a bogus company named G D Overseas was being run from a Pydhonie building. Police said that the details of new current accounts opened in different banks in the city and new SIM cards were being activated and then the account kit and SIM cards were being sent to Dubai and used for gaming and cyber fraud.The crime branch unit-II team raided the place and arrested the gang leader and his five accomplices and seized a total of 66 ATM cards of different banks, two computers, a color printer, SIM cards of 12 different mobile companies, 15 passbooks of different banks, a total of 122 cheque books of different banks, two pen drives, a total of 68 rubber stamps of various companies, account opening forms of different banks, electricity bills, enterprise registration certificates of various companies, etc. Some bank accounts were used in 18 previous cyber frauds, said police. A case has been registered at the Pydhonie police Station. The arrested accused have been remanded in police custody till July 8.
