Netas question ‘lack of clarity' in delimitation process
The meeting at the KMC headquarters on Tuesday

Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation may extend the date of hearing for the delimitation proposals that were passed in the assembly. The decision was taken, sources said, after the KMC administrator Smita Pandey met representatives of political parties at an all-party meet at the civic headquarters. Most of the political netas who participated in the meeting sought explanation from the KMC authority about the ‘lack of clarity’ on the delimitation process. “We may need to conduct a hearing as suggested by the political leaders to satisfy their queries relating to the delimitation process,” said a KMC official associated with the delimitation process.Meanwhile, the representatives of the political parties who took part in the meeting questioned the manner in which the boundaries of the KMC wards were reset after a delimitation process. They also questioned the motive behind the processing of the delimitation of the KMC wards before the census began.Members of both Trinamool groups expressed apprehension that without taking care of the SIR adjudication, the KMC delimitation will add to the worries of the voters. Besides, leaders participated in the meeting questioned the KMC’s infrastructure strength to man 65 additional wards that were carved out of the existing 144 wards. The Left Front members that include the CPM and CPI leaders questioned the reason for hurriedly done delimitation taking into account the voters and not the population as the criteria for the delimitation. The lone BJP member who attended the meeting also had few objections against the procedure of the delimitation.“We have heard their voices during the meeting and will conduct a fresh hearing in this regard,” said a KMC official.
