PMC to hold property tax camps across wards

Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) will organise ward-wise property tax assessment camps from Oct 5 to bring unassessed properties under the tax net. The camps will facilitate new assessments, reassessments, corrections in property tax records and payment of pending dues.The exercise will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be held from Oct 5 to 7 at the ward councillor’s office in Ward 3 under New Capital Circle and at Gate No. 93, Ashok Rajpath, for Ward 22-A under Patliputra Circle. The second phase, from Oct 8 to 10, will be organised at the ward councillor’s office in Harnichak (Ward 11) and the ward councillor’s office in Kurji (Ward 22-B).PMC officials said sanitation inspectors and sector supervisors have been directed to conduct ward-level surveys to identify properties that are yet to be assessed or require reassessment. The details will be shared with the concerned executive officers for further action.According to a PMC communique, the civic body’s control room will also contact electricity consumers whose properties are outside the property tax net and inform them about the camps.Property owners will be able to pay outstanding tax dues at the camps. PMC said a penalty of 1.5% per month on pending property tax came into effect on Oct 1. The civic body has urged defaulters to clear their dues at the earliest to avoid additional penalties.The initiative follows PMC’s ongoing door-to-door property tax survey and assessment drive aimed at expanding the tax base and boosting revenue collection.
