Ranchi: The academic council of Ranchi University (RU) on Wednesday approved the rollout of several new courses. Presided by vice-chancellor Saroj Sharma, the council approved rollout of M.Sc in data science in the post-graduate department of mathematics, centre for diaspora studies and MA in education. A consensus was also reached on establishing a centre for Indian knowledge systems.“Many Indians living abroad, especially those from Jharkhand Bihar, wish to learn the regional languages through certificate courses. The centre will serve as a hub for various academic activities, enabling the diaspora to reconnect with their roots,” Sharma said. Four new under-graduate courses in the department of performing and fine arts were also approved.A proposal for launching a six-month PhD coursework programme in the PG department of chemistry was approved. The council gave its nod to the discontinuation of PG courses in affiliated colleges.The council also decided that degrees awarded to students will carry the name of the subject and faculty as per UGC norms, so that students face no difficulty in academic or professional pursuits outside the university.
