Patna: Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) on Thursday arrested Rosera deputy collector land reforms (DCLR) Kanchan Kumari Jha and her domestic help, Sumit Kumar, while allegedly accepting a Rs 2 lakh bribe. The bureau also recovered Rs 13 lakh in cash during a search of her govt residence in Ward-24 of Rosera Nagar Panchayat.Kanchan had allegedly demanded Rs 2 lakh and a washing machine from a person in exchange for settling a land dispute case. The action followed a complaint by Manoj Kumar of Madhavpur village under Vibhutipur police station in Samastipur.After preliminary verification found the allegations prima facie true, a case was registered at Vigilance Police Station on Aug 25. A trap team was subsequently formed under deputy superintendent of police Narendra Kumar.VIB DG Jitendra Singh Gangwar said an additional Rs 13.82 lakh in cash was recovered during the search. “The domestic help Sumit was acting as a middleman in the bribery arrangement. Both accused were taken into custody following the trap operation,” he said.After interrogation, the accused will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Muzaffarpur. Further investigation is underway.
