Patna: With major river basins across the state facing flooding and erosion, CM Samrat Choudhary inspected the Ganga around Patna on Thursday and asked officials concerned to provide immediate relief.“Inspected the rising waters of the river Ganga, and in view of the prevailing flood situation, gave necessary directives to the officials, so that common people don’t face problems and the security of their life and property is ensured,” Samrat said on social media.On Friday, Samrat will conduct an aerial survey of flood-hit areas before heading a high-level review meeting at state headquarters. The meeting will address river water levels, embankment safety, potential waterlogging, and rescue operations.National disaster response force and state disaster response force teams are on high alert. Officials have been ordered to ensure shelters, food, medicines, and essential supplies are ready for displaced residents.At the water resources department headquarters, deputy CM Vijay Kumar Choudhary inspected the command and control centre in the flood control wing. Vijay later reviewed rising water levels in the Punpun, Dardha, and other rivers via videoconference with field engineers.Vijay evaluated anti-erosion work on the Raghopur-Kajikoraiya embankment in Kharik block, Bhagalpur, which was previously damaged by the Ganga. He also assessed flood-mitigation efforts in Bhagalpur and other districts, focusing on sensitive and erosion-prone spots. He directed officials to maintain round-the-clock watch on vulnerable embankments. The department released photos showing staff keeping night vigil along the structures.The disaster management department has instructed officials to list affected families and document damaged houses and hamlets to distribute compensation under standard operating procedure rules.Major rivers including the Ganga, Kosi, Gandak, and Sone remain swollen, overflowing their banks, while smaller rivers like the Punpun and Dardha continue to cause local damage. Water discharge from the Indrapuri barrage on the Sone dropped to 4,47,000 cusecs on Thursday from a peak of 5,54,000 cusecs earlier in the week. However, downstream flow into the Ganga near Maner has worsened flooding from Patna and Vaishali to Bhagalpur and Katihar.Meanwhile, discharge from the Birpur barrage on the Kosi stood at 2,07,000 cusecs on Thursday afternoon, while the Valmikinagar barrage on the Gandak released 1,57,000 cusecs.
