Ranchi: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Jharkhand has entered its final phase, with the claims and objections window closing on Wednesday and officials now racing to scrutinise and dispose of over 11 lakh applications before the final roll is published on Oct 19.The exercise began with enumeration and verification of voters, followed by publication of the draft electoral roll on Aug 5. Voters were then given nearly two months to seek inclusion of names, deletion of entries or corrections in existing records.According to data from the office of the chief electoral officer (CEO), 6,57,780 Form-6 applications for inclusion of names were received till Wednesday. Officials also received 4,49,503 Form-8 applications for correction or modification of existing entries, 12,704 Form-7 applications or objections, and 111 Form-6A applications.The process remained active till the last stretch. On Tuesday alone, 28,588 applications were submitted across the four categories, including 15,433 Form-6 applications and 12,721 Form-8 applications.Officials said the large number of Form-8 applications — nearly 4.5 lakh — indicates the scale of correction and modification work ahead. These applications include requests for changes in details already recorded in the electoral roll and will require scrutiny, document checks and verification before disposal.With the claims and objections phase over, the focus has shifted to digitisation of physical forms, collection and mobilisation of supporting documents for new enrolments, field verification, scrutiny and final disposal. The CEO’s office has set Oct 14 as the deadline for disposal of all claims and objections.The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on Oct 19, leaving officials a narrow window to process the large volume of requests. The surge in applications just before the deadline has added to the workload, making the next two weeks crucial for deciding which entries are added, retained, corrected or removed from the roll.
