Patna: Summer continues to remain intense across the state, with the southern region expected to witness temperatures between 40°C and 44°C over the next 48 hours. According to the weather office here, the regional forecast indicates hotdays, heatwave-like conditions, with winds blowing up to 45 kmph across the state over the next 24 hours.Meanwhile, northern districts are likely to receive scattered light rainfall and thunderstorms over the next three days, with temperatures ranging between 32°C and 38°C.Data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna, showed that nine locations in the state recorded temperatures above 40°C in the past 24 hours. Dehri in Rohtas recorded the highest temperature at 44°C, while Patna registered 40.6°C. Weathermen have predicted hot and humid conditions in Aurangabad, Bhabua, Gaya, Nawada and Rohtas on Saturday. In contrast, northern districts, including Araria, East Champaran and Kishanganj, are expected to witness thunderstorms with winds reaching up to 50 kmph till April 29.In response to rising temperatures, Patna DM Thiyagarajan S M stressed the implementation of heatwave management protocols. Authorities have set up water stalls at 370 locations and opened 15 shelters across 17 urban bodies. The PHED has deployed 46 mobile teams to repair hand pumps and activated regional control rooms. Health officials have designated 88 beds across 30 specialised heatwave wards, ensuring dedicated facilities at primary and community health centres. District hospitals have reserved four beds each for heat-related illnesses, with instructions issued to the civil surgeon to expand capacity if needed.
