Agartala: Tripura has set a target of 500 MW renewable energy capacity by 2030, covering green energy projects and off-grid solutions, power minister Ratan Lal Nath said after launching Tripura Clean Energy Roadmap, Green Skilling Programme and TREAT Initiative here.Nath said renewable energy, particularly solar power, has become an essential catalyst for economic growth, technological innovation, job creation and sustainable development in the state.Unnayan through Transformative Solar Applications (UTSA), an initiative by Tripura govt, is designed to develop skilled personnel for the growing solar industry. UTSA directly supports Tripura Energy Vision 2030 and 6Ds Clean Energy Road Map 2025–2035, focusing on cultivating solar PV skills for clean energy applications.Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA), in partnership with Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), is executing training programmes like Suryamitra and Solar PV Technician. Nath noted that these programmes are supported by the new and renewable energy ministry and align with an Asian Development Bank (ADB)-backed project to transform green energy in the state.Schemes including PM-KUSUM, PM-DevINE, PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, PM-JANMAN, Grameen Bazaar Alok Jyoti Prakalpa, solar micro-grids, green hydrogen, micro-hydel, hydrokinetics, pumped storage, battery storage and biogas projects are expanding clean energy access to farmers, households, public institutions and communities.Tripura has achieved roughly 58.76 MW of renewable energy capacity. Under PM-KUSUM, solar pump installations have covered substantial agricultural land, with more planned. Solarisation of grid-connected pumps is generating power and cutting costs for farmers. Solar micro-grids are also delivering clean power to thousands of families under PM-DevINE and PM-JANMAN, earning praise from Prime Minister in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme.Tripura’s green energy drive has earned multiple honours, including recognition as the best-performing state among northeastern states for installing the highest number of solar pumps under PM-KUSUM, and SKOCH Power & Energy Silver Award 2025 for its solar micro-grid project.
