Dumka: An undertrial prisoner in a murder case died on Monday after he was found unconscious in his barrack at Rajmahal sub-jail, officers said.The deceased, identified as Sunil Baskey, 35, a resident of Salti Pokhar in Sahibganj district, had been lodged in the jail since July 14, 2025. Jail sources said he was accused of assaulting his uncle, Suleman Baskey, who later died of his injuries.Officers said Baskey had lunch and then went to rest with the other inmates. Around 2.30 pm, when jail personnel opened the barracks to allow the prisoners outside, all the inmates came out except Baskey, who remained lying in his place.Fellow inmates and jail staff tried to wake him, but he did not respond. Jail authorities alerted security personnel and rushed him to Rajmahal Sub-Divisional Hospital.Sadik Ansari, the doctor on duty, examined Baskey and declared him dead. “The prisoner had already died before he was brought to the hospital,” Ansari said.Jail deputy superintendent Bimal Soren said Baskey suffered from epilepsy and was undergoing treatment. “He went to sleep after having his meal and did not wake up for a long time. He was taken to Rajmahal SDH, where doctors declared him dead,” Soren said.
