Widow of former CCL officer gets 3 years in DA case

Ranchi: A special CBI court on Monday convicted and sentenced the wife of Shankar Kumar Agarwal, the wife of former Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) material manager, to three years of rigorous imprisonment after finding her guilty in a case of disproportionate assets. She was also fined Rs 25 lakh.A case was registered against Agarwal and his wife Rajni in 2002. Agarwal died last year. Sources said the court of Kuldeep held her guilty as a co-accused under Section 109 of the IPC read with Sections 13(2) and 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. It ordered that she would undergo an additional term of one year’s simple imprisonment in case of default in payment of the fine.The agency found disproportionate assets worth 193.5% of his known sources of income during the period between November 1987 and August 2002. Several assets were allegedly purchased in the name of the co-accused, officials said. Khusboo Jaiswal conducted the case for the CBI.
