New Delhi, June 30: Union health minister JP Nadda Monday called for integrating liver disease screening into all national health screening programmes and asked the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) to develop a national liver disease screening framework through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.Speaking at ILBS’ 10th convocation ceremony, Nadda described the institute as a global centre of excellence in liver care and emphasised the need to strengthen preventive healthcare alongside expanding super-speciality medical education.ILBS conferred degrees on 36 post-doctoral and eight PhD graduates, marking a decade of producing specialists in liver sciences.Presenting the institute’s annual report, ILBS director prof S K Sarin said the institute treated over 1.6 lakh liver patients in 2025, managed 10,800 liver emergencies and completed 162 liver transplants during the year, taking the cumulative total to 1,392. ILBS also performed 372 kidney transplants and treated over 2,000 beneficiaries under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, while expanding research, artificial intelligence programmes and public health initiatives focused on liver disease prevention.
