BJP candidate’s low profile, RJD’s 2nd bid end in defeat

Patna: The Bankipur assembly bypoll marked a setback for both BJP’s Neeraj Kumar Sinha and RJD’s Rekha Kumari Gupta.Sinha, a grassroots BJP worker and youth leader, was chosen after the party weighed multiple options during candidate selection. He was fielded after the seat fell vacant following former MLA Nitin Nabin’s election to the Rajya Sabha. Unlike Nabin, who had a strong public profile, Sinha had a relatively lower political visibility in the constituency. For the RJD, Rekha Gupta faced her second consecutive electoral contest from Bankipur. A businesswoman by background, Gupta had secured 29.55% votes in the previous assembly election but saw her vote share fall to 10.95% (14,273 votes) this time, leading to forfeiture of her security deposit. Both Sinha and Gupta stayed away from media interactions after the result.
