JAMSHEDPUR: A 24-year-old CNG station employee died after a refuelling hose burst and the detached nozzle struck him on the head at a petrol pump on Sakchi-Kalimati Road late Thursday.The victim, identified as Tushar Khamri, was on night duty and was filling CNG into a car when the hose suddenly burst with a loud bang, employees at the station said. The nozzle detached and hit him on the head, leaving him critically injured.Khamri was rushed to Tata Main Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, his uncle Gangadhar Khamri said.The incident sparked panic at the petrol pump, with employees and customers rushing to safety amid fears of a major explosion. Some people reportedly left their vehicles behind as a gas leak followed the hose burst.A technical team from GAIL later reached the spot and managed to stop the gas leak after considerable effort. Golmuri police also arrived at the station.Khamri’s family has demanded compensation from the pump operator, saying he was the sole breadwinner of the family.Former BJP member Vikash Singh also demanded adequate compensation and called for a murder case to be registered against the pump operator. He threatened to launch a fast unto death if the demands were not met.Golmuri police station officer-in-charge Sanjay Suman could not be reached for comment. Police officers said that no FIR had been registered in connection with the incident so far.GAIL Jamshedpur circle general manager Gauri Shankar Mishra said the station was owned by BPCL and officials were investigating the incident. “The cause would be known after a technical probe,” he said.
