Dumka: A 39-year-old village headman was allegedly hacked to death with an axe in Sahibganj district on Friday evening, police said on Saturday.The deceased, Guhia Pahariya, headman of Gunde Pahar village, was attacked at Navgachhi Pahar, where he had been living with his family for the past several years. He sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.Villagers caught the alleged attacker, 35-year-old Chekro Pahariya, who is from the same village, and handed him over to police.Borio police station officer in-charge Rohit Kumar said the accused had been taken into custody and was being questioned. “The exact motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained. All angles are being examined,” he said.The body was sent to Sahibganj Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination on Saturday.Guhia is survived by three daughters. Villagers alleged that the illegal liquor trade had been continuing in Navgachhi Pahar area for a long time. They demanded action to curb the activity, claiming that several untoward incidents had occurred there in the past.
