Ranchi: DGP Tadasha Mishra on Thursday reviewed preparations for the Rath Yatra in the Jagannathpur area of Ranchi and issued a series of instructions to ensure the safety of devotees and smooth conduct of the fair.Mishra visited Dhurwa, where she interacted with police officers and members of the Jagannath Temple Nyas Samiti on the deployment of security personnel, installation of CCTV cameras, emergency measures and other issues. Mishra also inspected the procession route, which begins from the temple and ends at Mausi Bari.Sources said Mishra asked officers to ensure that the procession route was not encroached upon and that heavy vehicles were not allowed in the area. “A close vigil must be kept on the crowd through CCTV cameras,” she said.The DGP also directed officials to ensure adequate drinking water, power supply and other basic amenities at the fair.In another meeting held at the police headquarters, Mishra instructed police officers to take strict action against the Devil’s Group active in Godda and Dumka districts and ordered the formation of a joint team to investigate organised crime in the Santhal Pargana division.Police said that during the meeting at the police headquarters, the DGP instructed officers to carry out physical verification of suspects linked to the Devil’s Group. She said inter-state coordination must be strengthened to prevent smuggling of illegal arms.The DGP issued directions for the formation of a joint team comprising personnel from Godda, Dumka, Jamtara and Deoghar districts to investigate cases of organised crime and ensure effective investigation. She said the team, which would be headed by an officer of deputy superintendent of police rank, should submit its progress report to the inspector general, Dumka, on a weekly basis.She asked the IG, Dumka, and the IG (operations) to ensure scientific investigation, collection of solid evidence and timely production of witnesses against members of the Devil’s Group, adding that coordination must be established with the prosecution to ensure a speedy trial of their cases.
