Chatra: Police have seized around 2.28 kg of opium worth around Rs 10 lakh and arrested one person during a special operation on Wednesday.The arrested accused has been identified as Vikas Kumar, a resident of Lipda village under Sadar police station limits, police said.Chatra SP Animesh Naithany said, “Acting on inputs that a consignment of opium was being transported from Chatra to Itkhori in a white car, a special team was formed under the leadership of DSP (Headquarters) Amita Lakra. A vehicle-checking drive was launched near Baksa bridge on the Itkhori–Chatra road. During checking, a suspicious car was intercepted and searched, leading to the recovery of 2.28 kg of opium. The car, bearing number JH02BJ-5997, and a mobile phone were seizes.”An FIR has been registered under secs 18(E)/28/29 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is under way and raids are being conducted to trace and arrest other members of the racket, he added.
