New Delhi: Four people allegedly drowned while bathing in the Yamuna near Yamuna Khadar in east Delhi’s Geeta Colony Monday evening, prompting a joint search and rescue operation. One body has been recovered.Around 7.20pm, they entered the river to take a bath when they got swept away, said locals. A joint rescue operation was launched by Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and a local boat club immediately after the incident.Police said the search operation was continuing late into the night with multiple teams deployed at the spot.The identities of the victims are yet to be ascertained, and the man whose body was recovered appeared to be 35-40 years old, officials said.The incident is the latest in a series of drowning cases reported in the city this year. Earlier this month, four Class X students drowned while bathing in the Yamuna near Hiranki village in outer north Delhi. Their bodies were recovered after an extensive multi-day search operation by Delhi Police, NDRF and other rescue agencies.A seven-year-old boy, Rehan, had also drowned in a rainwater-filled pit near his home in Samaypur Badli after allegedly slipping into the water.
