Ranchi: With monsoon covering most part of the state, local MLA C P Singh has sought a permanent drainage solution for Seva Sadan Path and other vulnerable areas after Sunday’s heavy rain.Singh wrote to the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), urging a permanent solution for Seva Sadan Path and other affected points. “Waterlogging has become a recurring urban challenge in several parts of Ranchi. The need of the hour is a scientific and long-term solution rather than seasonal interventions. The corporation should prepare a comprehensive action plan covering all vulnerable locations in the city,” Singh said. He also sought a citywide survey of waterlogging-prone areas.Water accumulated on stretches leading to Seva Sadan Hospital, inconveniencing patients and attendants. Traders in Upper Bazaar said waterlogged roads hit customer movement, while residents of Harmu and Kokar flagged clogged drains and overflowing roadside channels as recurring issues.“Even a few hours of rain are enough to leave roads submerged. Customers avoid coming to the market when water accumulates near shops,” said Rajesh Gupta, a trader in Upper Bazaar.Anita Devi, a resident of Harmu, said, “Water remains on the roads for hours, making commuting difficult for schoolchildren, office-goers and elderly residents.”RMC officials said 108 potential waterlogging sites have been identified across 53 wards through survey and field assessment. Eight wards — 15, 18, 19, 22, 28, 32, 48 and 49 — have been marked highly sensitive.“We have deployed 11 desilting pumps and constituted 11 quick response teams for immediate action during heavy rainfall. Pre-monsoon drain cleaning and continuous monitoring are underway, while long-term measures such as drain construction, widening and deepening have been planned at nearly 70% of identified sites,” an RMC statement read.
