Tamil Nadu polls: Flying squad seizes saris meant for voter gifts in Tiruchengodu

NAMAKKAL: An Election Flying Squad team in Tiruchengodu, Namakkal district, seized 100 new saris allegedly meant to be distributed as gifts to voters, during the early hours of Saturday.The squad acted after a complaint to the Namakkal District Election Control Room that a large cardboard box was being used for gift distribution in the Pavadi street area.

“Flying Squad-1 officer Vetrivel, along with Assistant Inspector Srinivasan and others, conducted a midnight check,” said revenue divisional officer (RDO) and returning officer Lenin.During the operation, DMK members carrying the saris abandoned the box and fled. The squad seized the 100 saris, valued at about Rs 40,000, and handed them over to the Tiruchengodu RDO Lenin.Tiruchengodu town police registered a case against DMK ward member V Dinesh (41) and are investigating.
