Daltonganj: A woman delivered a baby girl in the lavatory of an express train near Latehar railway station on Tuesday, officials here said on Wednesday. Sarita Devi, who was on board a general coach of the 0811 Santragachi-Ajmer Fair Special Express, went into labour after the train left Tori railway station.She delivered the girl child, her third, while the train was approaching Latehar railway station from Tori, nearly 33 km away. A resident of Chiyanki in Daltonganj, Sarita had boarded the train with her husband at Ranchi railway station. She was travelling to Daltonganj.A railway official travelling in the coach first alerted the control room to her condition. The station master on duty at Latehar, Shankar Kumar, informed station superintendent Balwant Kumar Singh, who called 108 and ensured an ambulance was parked outside the station in time.“Sarita Devi and her newborn were deboarded in a stretcher at Latehar railway station and admitted to Latehar Sadar Hospital. Both are fine,” Singh. The train, which has a two-minute stoppage at Latehar railway station, was detained for nine minutes, railway sources said.Ved Prakash, senior official at Latehar Sadar Hospital, said Sarita was provided prompt post-delivery treatment.
