Bokaro: At a time when the East Singhbhum and West Singhbhum district administrations have launched aggressive campaigns against malaria, the public health department of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) on Sunday launched an anti-larval inspection and awareness campaign across Bokaro Steel Township to check mosquito-borne diseases like dengue, chikungunya, and malaria.The drive is aimed at detecting and destroying breeding sites. Six teams of trained health workers are moving through residential pockets, open spaces and vulnerable locations across sectors, draining stagnant water and carrying out anti-larval treatment, wherever required.“Curbing mosquito breeding at source is the most effective way to stop mosquito-borne diseases. The cooperation of residents is vital in making the campaign a success,” Manikant Dhan, chief of communication, BSL, said.BSL has deployed six dedicated teams for systematic inspections across different sectors. Officials said the teams are paying particular attention to residential premises, public areas and spots where rainwater can collect after showers, including discarded containers and uncovered storage points.The Public Health Department has urged residents to stay alert through the rainy season. People have been advised to clean coolers regularly, prevent water accumulation in flower pots, buckets and unused containers, and keep water storage tanks properly covered.“Small precautions at home can play a major role in protecting the community from dengue and malaria. Residents should allow authorised inspection teams to check their premises and cooperate during anti-larval treatment,” the department said.Officials said the exercise will continue during the monsoon, with teams revisiting high-risk locations whenever fresh accumulation is reported.
