Jharkhand Census 2027: House Listing Begins Saturday, Self-Enumeration Nears Completion

Ranchi: Door-to-door house-listing, part of the first phase of Census 2027 in Jharkhand, will formally commence from Saturday as enumerators will hit the ground for physical verification process.The self-enumeration process, which began on May 1, and introduced for the first time, ended after midnight Friday. The house-listing work will be on till June 14 during which close to 77,716 people will be engaged for this job.As per the official figures issued from the Directorate of Census Operations, Jharkhand, till 5pm, 1,55,200 families in the state have completed their self-enumeration process. “The numbers might increase a bit by the time the window closes at midnight,” an official told TOI.Among districts, Ranchi, East Singhbhum and Hazaribag are the top three. “Till 5pm, Ranchi clocked 42,364 self-enumeration followed by East Singhbhum (16,523) and Hazaribag (9,927), he said.Enumerators visiting the house for physical verification from Saturday will ask for a total of 33 questions, primarily related to the details of the household, facilities available, and assets among others.“Enumerators will do entire process digitally through mobile app. All personal information provided during the census will be kept completely confidential under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948 and the Census Rules, 1990,” read a statement from the census office, Jharkhand, urging people not to share any sensitive information with the enumerators.Prabhat Kumar, director of the Census Directorate Jharkhand, said, “We appeal to citizens to provide accurate and correct information to the enumerator. It will help make govt schemes more effective in the times to come.”In Ranchi, deputy commissioner-cum principal district census officer, Manjunath Bhajantri said that they have already distributed official kits required — ID cards, digital devices, formats, bag etc to all those who are being engaged for house-listing work. “Necessary guidelines to all officers and staff have been issued for completing the process in a smooth, and time-bound manner,” he said.
