Patna HC settles family dispute, reunites couple

Patna: The Patna high court on Thursday reunited a newly married couple after hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by the husband, who alleged his wife had been wrongfully confined by her parents. In an emotional moment after the hearing, the couple sought the blessing of their parents in the courtroom before leaving together.A division bench of justices Rajeev Ranjan Prasad and Kumar Manish disposed of the petition filed by Golu and allowed his wife, Rani, to return with him to her matrimonial home in Mandiri under Buddha Colony police station.Appearing for Golu, advocate Anuraj Singh submitted that the couple, both adults, had recently married. He alleged Rani had been forcibly confined at her parental home in Gaurichak due to opposition from her father and brother and that her cellphone had been taken away to prevent her from contacting her husband. On June 30, the bench had directed the SHO of Gaurichak police station to verify whether Rani was being illegally confined. Dissatisfied with the police report, the court later directed the appearance of Rani and her parents. When questioned by the bench, Rani expressed her desire to live with Golu but voiced concern over the strained relationship between the two families. The court then sought an affidavit from Golu’s parents assuring Rani’s safety and security at her matrimonial home. After the undertaking was submitted, the judges urged both families to overcome their differences and bless the couple’s married life.
