Ranchi: The Jharkhand Flying Institute (JFI) has launched certificate and diploma programmes for air hostesses, flight stewards, and ground handlers to enhance skills of state youths, enabling them to secure employability in the aviation sector, authorities said.“The application process for the courses started from July 6 and it will end on July 31. Candidates will be selected based on their merits, personal interview, and spoken English test, followed by their document verification and medical fitness test. The classes will start soon after,” Captain S P Sinha, managing director of JFI, said.The institute will run four programmes: six-month certificate courses in Air Hostess/Flight Steward and Ground Handling, and one-year diploma courses in the same disciplines. Each course will admit 60 students with reservation as per state policy. “A total of 30 seats will be for unreserved category applicants, 16 for scheduled tribe candidates, six for scheduled castes, four and two for backward class-1 and backward class -2 categories, respectively, and two for economically weaker section category,” he added.

Fees are Rs 1, 00,500 for certificate courses and Rs 1, 55,500 for diploma courses. “The fees includes registration, admission, study materials, uniform, examination charges, grooming kit, swimming, and fitness training. It has been fixed on a par with current market rate. There is no provision of scholarship to students at present. But if the govt decides, they might avail scholarships too,” Sinha added.In May, JFI had introduced its first-ever commercial pilot’s license (CPL) programme at its flight training base at the Dumka airport, which was inaugurated by chief minister Hemant Soren last November.
